"En Garde's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Touche Reserve is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, split almost equally between Diamond Mountain and Atlas Peak. Vanilla and cedar notes are followed on the nose by red raspberries and redcurrants, plus some sage notes. While full-bodied, this wine is tight and taut, bright and lingering on the finish but also marked by dusty tannins—nothing a bit of time can't resolve." - Joe Czerwinski

"From a site on Atlas Peak, which was picked a week earlier than usual but still toward the end of October, En Garde's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Hendrickson Vineyard Reserve boasts rather pretty aromas of violet and sage against a backdrop of raspberries and cherries. It's full-bodied, supple and ripe but without any sense of raisining, while the finish is perhaps a touch warm and marked by some mentholated barrel notes. Located next to Stagecoach, Hendrickson was planted over 30 years ago to Clones 7 and 8, according to En Garde owner Csaba Szakál." - Joe Czerwinski

2022 Pinot Noir Passion de la Reine Reserve - Russian River Valley
96 points
"This Reserve certainly is enormous, offering a classic Russian River flood of cherries, raspberries, cola and oak. If measured by balance, it does seem slightly more in equilibrium in terms of acidity and tannic structure than the other 22s. There’s really nothing wrong here, and everything right, except for the size, which may be offputting. I’m willing to grant it a point more than the Roma’s vineyard, simply for the lush elegance and mouthfeel. Highish alcohol is a marked feature. A wine to enjoy with smoky, charred beef. Delicious and hedonistic as it is, it demands a few years of aging, to soften and take off the edge. " - Steve Heimoff

"The best thing about this Pinot is the balance between lush, ripe fruit and vibrant acidity. On the ripe side you have an enormous extract of raspberries, cherries and cola, sweetened with smoky new oak. On the balance side is tangy acidity and the earthiness of tobacco, mint and sous bois. A bit brawny, but delicious and voluptuous. Every sip adds to the complexity, which extends into a long, spicy finish." - Steve Heimoff

2022 Pinot Noir Roma's Vineyard - Anderson Valley

"Much is made of Pinot Noir’s flavors and mouthfeel, deservedly so. But sometimes its aromatics are missed by the critics. It takes a wine like this to make you appreciate that olfactory beauty. This wine opens with a Beethovian blast of raspberries, cherries and French oak, with spicy notes reminiscent of black tea, cola, anise and cloves. These pure, clean complexities reprise in the mouth, where the savoriness is balanced by excellent acidity and firm but silky tannins. The long finish promises ageability. A really beautiful Pinot Noir of complexity and harmony, lovely to drink now, and should develop bottle complexity over the next eight years." - Steve Heimoff
